"Walk the way you're pulled!"
Maggie's journey into the world of art began at 60 following a deep personal tragedy, when an artist friend swept her in and started her on a completely unexpected path. On that path she would develop an unquenchable thirst and appreciation for the beauty in the world around her.
Having had no previous experience with art, Maggie began traveling extensively to attend painting workshops in France, Greece, Italy, Mexico and many places throughout North America. Those experiences and her eagerness to experiment with new techniques makes her work unique and varied over a broad spectrum of subjects, including floral, portraiture, and narratives of all kinds.
"I live in free-floating awe of the beauty in the world around me. Looking is not the same as seeing. When I am willing to take the time to really see, everything becomes a painting... my heart sings and my feet dance."
While watercolour is her first love, Maggie has also mastered other mediums such as charcoal and pastels. She is currently exploring oils.
Maggie lives in her log home in a rural community with her husband Mike, 13 chickens, several thousand bees, their yellow lab, Piper and her great-grandchildren next door. There, she breathes deeply and, when she isn't painting, creates art through her extensive gardens.

Art of Gardening
Merely contemplating beauty "causes the soul to grow wings" (Plato)
"Hearts starve as well as bodies... give us bread but give us roses." (from a poem by James Oppenheim, 1911 - women's suffrage movement)
Practicality and beauty are intermingled in my gardens, providing most of the food we eat as well as extensive flower gardens that feed my soul. Wandering through my gardens, I am filled with a sense of plenitude, where I want for nothing. What is this if not art?

YouTube Channel: Things We Used To Know... with Maggie C
The escalating costs of food, energy and global climate crisis has left us struggling to find ways to make ends meet and become more self-reliant.
Past generations had the knowledge and skills to do just that... because they had to. Today, at 73 years of age, I am deeply concerned about the significant gap between what we currently know and what we need to know for self-reliance.
But the tide is turning and many are seeking out ways to once again make this a reality
